Our Local and International Causes

1st Grade Library Cards

Horizon Sunrise Rotary and the Mesa County Public Library have teamed to support literacy for local children. With Rotarians providing bus transportation, first grade students are offered an opportunity for an exciting and free field trip to visit and learn about all the services the library has to offer. While there, students view a special puppet show and meet a reading partner, Iris, the dog. Following the adventure, Rotarians visit students’ classrooms to hand out first library cards for first graders. This program also supports the Colorado Academic Standards in theater and civics for first grade.
